Stoneygate loss a real saga

Stoneygate the rematch. Due to the parched Fleckney pitch and spectatorship seemingly restricted to Bob the Builder the fixture was reversed to the Langtons where the Roberts provided a rather magnificent tea and also inflatable zimmer frame and walking stick to mark the Vice Captains ascention to SAGA sport.

Fleckney won the toss and batted. Both Seth and Mandeep survived early chances. The player formerly known as Brian Baldy but now slightly more hersuit ( perhaps now known as Stevie Sunroof )shelled a regulation one at slip which admittedly is a rareity.

Its also a rareity to see Fleckney bowled out especially after just 31 overs but whilst 175 is a good rate after that many overs they really needed a bigger total, Bazball or should we say Scootball clearly backfired.

Mandeep clobbered a quickfire 79, Hishan likewise for 36, Yak 18 etc but no-one dropped anchor. Everyone seemed to want the happy meal rather than wait for the full steak dinner. Mind you there was some canny bowling going on from the hosts ( well bowled Niall)

The above is not to say it was all bad. Some strokeplay was very easy on the eye however the sight of Ollie having to redress himself at the square wasnt ideal. And with his recent leg injury clearly still a concern his running down the wicket with bat in the air was more like a Benny Hill chase scene or Pantomine skit. Still even that is a blessing of sorts eh Widow Twanky, Gammy Hammy, Like a Spike, Flip Flop Gobshite?

Stevie Sunroof fell early but Chris Gutteridge (58) was in very decent nick and 'gate did silly things like building innings and taking their time. Occasional wickets fell, Henry bowled a lovely opening spell, Hishan got 4 victims but it always seemed that Fleckney were playing catch up, and like the Vice Captain rumbling behind a ball as it crawled to the boundary, they never really looked like making it.

Well done on your victory Stoneygate, it was a lovely afternoon and we hope to spend many more like it in coming seasons. And to our absent friend we send our very best wishes, you will always be welcome at Fleckney.
