Seen it, don't believe it.

Progress never stops. Arriving at the parched but beautiful Laughton and Mowsley ground we were confronted with the 21st luxury of a portaloo. Players were relieved but not half as relieved as the surrounding hedges.

The home side batted first on a beautiful wicket and a outfield suitable for camels.

Henry Rosier (8 overs 1 for 28) was at his miserly best . Some catches were dropped, some were taken including the vice captain grabbing one in the slips. Spectators were also ‘treated’ to the sight of gammy hammy like a spike flip flop gobshite chasing the ball to the boundary whilst having to hold up his trousers.

Yes the home side reached 261 but we should also mention a fine spell from Hishan and a promising closing spell from Manraj. There had been 3 decisions that the Fleckney fielders would possibly have referred to a third umpire if one had been available, possibly the home side would have some of their own,but a portaloo is progress enough (and our opponents are good friends).

In reply Fleckney got off to a flying start. Well Mandeep got off to a flyer. When he had 50 the team only had 58. When he had departed for 79 it was still a huge proportion of the score.

117 for 5 at drinks with Yakesh and Manu at the crease offered the opportunity for further fun, or a traditional Fleckney collapse. Luckily it was the former.

A 100 partnership between the 2 gave Fleckney a sniff of victory on a ground where they probably haven’t won since the last time (maybe) President Trump had a natural tan. It wasn’t slogging, it as controlled batting mixed with the occasional bad ball being dispatched. The required rate kept ticking down but there was always the , what if? Well, on this occasion what if never occurred.

Fleckney chased down 262 to win with an over and a half to spare. Yak had 88 not out, Manu 48 not out and a partnership of 159 unbroken off 141 balls. It was , quite simply, one of the remarkable wins you will ever see. AND your Roving Reporter was there to see it.

If Fleckney can chase down 262 anything is possible. Maybe its time for a lie down.
