The Kids Are Alright!

Like 6 of the 7 dwarves this Roving Reporter is not happy. There is more what might loosely be termed comedy in failure and pratfalls but personal milestones and application (whilst laudable) offers less room for amusement. Think of it like buying a greetings card with flowers on the front and a sensible greeting in the middle for a family member instead of the one you want to buy with a rude image and a risqué ditty.

Dear old Flip Flop Gobshite had another footwear issue, asking anyone who would listen if they had a spare pair of spikes. The fat keeper who had moved to Umpire for the day lent his kit but didn't get the appropriate delousing fee for afterwards. The concern is the newly crowned Like A Spike Flip Flop Gobshite needs a bloody big shirt to fit his name on.

Will Bale went first, walking when Glynn was the only one in South Leicestershire not to hear an edge behind. Mandeep....big bat...smashing boundaries...yadda yadda yadda (😉) plumb lbw 44. Enter the next generation.

Ollie Timms and Seth Styles put on 122 for the 3rd wicket. Ollie bringing the house down with his maiden 50 (pity he didn't bring his spikes down) and Seth bagged his 3rd weekend 50 in a row with a personal best of 73 not out. If seeing this milestone of development didn't bring a lump to the throat you either aren't Fleckney or have a tougher demeanour than Chuck Norris used to display. Take a bow both, incredibly proud of you

Fleckney set Braybrooke 244 to win and against a spin, well spin and Scooter barrage , they never really were in the hunt. In all fairness the skipper bowled with great confidence and so he should after bagging 7 wickets the day before and he grabbed 3 more here. Sadly when having his usual Friday trim and asked by the barber if he wanted 'something for the weekend' asking for a 10 wicket bag was laudible but missing the usual point. No wonder his poor Mum has only got 1 grandchild...

Quick congrats to visiting batter Iain Scarisbrick who batted beautifully and completed his century in the final over as Braybrooke finished on 179. Also a well deserved nod to Annabel Handy who bowled really impressively in her 7 overs.

It had been a day for the younger players and simply terrific fun. One wonders how much Like A Spike will have to pay to rent his lucky borrowed boots in future, or if men in Hazmat suits will allow them to be removed from quarantine...
