Last week Billesdon, this week Broomleys.
The miles are racking up even if the winning streak stopped at one.
A match that our hosts did fantastically well to get on after heavy rain ended with good entertainment, some incredible individual moments and enough appealling to keep Judge Rinder busy for weeks. Marvellous stuff!
It was not a promising start.
Enterprising stroke play saw Broomleys pile up an initial run rate higher than a hippy at a festival.
Cue unexpected event number one. Andy 'The Claw' Loomes throwing the stumps down from side on, the disbelief of the outgoing bat only beaten by our own.
Event number 2. Scotty Roberts turned one. And when we say turn it ripped from well outside off to over leg. The comment it must have hit a pebble was rather unkind.
Event number 3. Chris Hill held a steepler at mid wicket that was even better than his grab last week. We are changing his name to 'Buckets'. He later took wickets with the ball.
Event number 4. New chairman Jules wrangling his way to a three over two wicket haul, unlike number 3 we won't be changing his name to 'Strike Bowler' though.
At tea Broomleys had scored 244. Sadly one of their number had retired hurt with a recurrence of a knee injury and we wish him well.
Scoring that amount of runs despite assurances of the quality of the wicket from a Broomleys old boy seemed unlikely. It was simply a case of how far up the respectability ladder the Duckhunters could scale before the bar opened.
After Mike Hextall and Mike Dunkley had departed in quick succession the run scoring slowed as the Duckhunters scraped past 100 with nine wickets down.
Thanks to our hosts though for allowing young Sam Hill an opportunity to bat again with the Mole claiming ankle trouble/batting average preservation.
For two Duckhunters it was a short trip across Coalville to get home. For others a trip back to 'The Shield' to say goodbye and thank you to Tony Grant as he moves to pastures new.
We might fill his role but we will never fill his boots.
