Walking Cricket Update

Updated: Nov 15, 2019

One of Fleckney's players, a former carer for his Dad, has been working with a National Charity, Re-engage and Fleckney Village Cricket Club to start up Walking Cricket locally. The national charity have been bringing older people together into social groups for over 50 years mainly through tea parties. This initiative is to widen their appeal to older men who social circles are diminishing. The Cricket Club will welcome older Men (our oldest player is in their 70s) and Women to the Walking Cricket, and young ones whose health may be a barrier to playing for one of Fleckney's Saturday or Sunday teams, ensuring an inclusive environment.

The 1 hour sessions, once a months, of Walking Cricket which has its own specific rules and uses equipment geared to both a safe and enjoyable session of Cricket. We have run 4 friendly sessions now (small group), and most importantly everyone has fun as well as a very small element of competition!

The next session (Nov will have passed) will be on 22nd December 3:30 until 5pm, which for many older people can be a time of year where loneliness and isolation impacts most whilst most people are starting enjoy the seasons festivities. The sessions in Winter are indoor, and this session will be held at the Fleckney Sports Hall with Tea/Coffee biscuits or cake afterwards.

We are keen to talk with Health professionals in the Village and surrounding areas who may know someone that would benefit. The activity is fully insured, full safeguarding procedures, and a few of us know how to play a little bit of Cricket and have fun.

If you know older men who this would benefit from taking part have some fun, a bit of activity and a great cuppa contact Chris Hill on 07840584296 or email we can also arrange a lift to the session and home from one of our volunteers.

Please also contact the club direct if you would like to join in or find out more about the various cricket activities for everyone.
