FVCC lost to Old Eastonians by 8 wickets
Fleckney Captains are not required to give press conferences. Apparently there is not sufficient national interest, even with a BBC journalist in their ranks. Oh and the Roving Reporter is usually there anyway. However if they did give a press conference it might go a little bit like this
Jonny Journo:- So, a pretty heavy 8 wicket defeat this afternoon?
Sunday Skipper:- Well you could look at it that way but I felt we were a little bit unlucky.
JJ:- Unlucky? You were beaten so early you could have been home in time for Bullseye if that show was still on.
SS:- Well, we had a couple of tricky catches that went down that would have made things a little more respectable, or at least would have stretched the game until Bully’s Prize Board.
JJ:- I think we are getting a little off track here.
SS:- Are we ? I mean my Mum and Dad told me all about the show, it sounded great. Did you ever wonder how two people from differing ends of the country were supposed to share a caravan?
JJ:- Er, so you won the toss and decided to bat?
SS:- Yeah, it was a lovely day with warm sun so we thought we would have a bat so Frankie could finish his shave.
JJ:- His shave?
SS:- We thought it was a little strange, maybe it is full moon or something.
JJ:- Possibly…so 110 for 2 at drinks must have given you confidence?
SS:- Yes, Ayaan departed early but a 100 partnership between Siddiq and Amy meant we had the chance to post a decent score
JJ:- Their bowler Prouse looked a bit sharp?
SS:- You could say that, decidedly quicker than your usual Sunday fare.
JJ:- How would you have faced that?
SS:- Not sure, I was waiting for my Mum to return with some spare underwear.
JJ:- (Nods)
SS:- Anyway, although the second half was a little slower 194 was a decent total. Congrats to Amy for anchoring the innings with 49 and entertaining cameos from Mandeep and others.
JJ:- So were you confident?
SS:- Damn right, my sister was doing the teas and I knew I was in for a right good feed.
JJ:- I wasn’t talking about the food
SS:- You should do, she did a mighty fine job
JJ:- Did you think you could defend your score?
SS:- I couldn’t make any judgment until I had defended my honour against a plate full of sarnies and cake….
JJ:- Moving on. They batted very well, didn’t they?
SS:- Yes, Prouse scored as quickly as he bowled and although James Sheath took his wicket and that of the other opener Marshall they got there with more than 11 overs to go
JJ:- Exactly. Do you have a word for Frank Smith though?
SS:- Old?
JJ:- No, that is not what I meant
SS:- Veteran?
JJ:- No, I mean his catch. The rest of the team seemed to really enjoy that one.
SS:- Frankie is such a central part of the team, it wouldn’t be Fleckney Village Cricket Club without him. Maybe there wasn’t much expectation when the ball went in his direction but it all went off when he took it. Best part of the day.
JJ:- Anything else you want to say?
SS:- Well, the bowling of Ollie Timms was hugely encouraging. But I was disappointed that the bag of Bombay Mix that was brought into the dressing room didn’t have the desired effect. I mean after the game at the Langtons the other week we really thought we were onto something but it seems we might have to go back to the snack drawing board
JJ:- You lose by 8 wickets and are talking about snacking options?
SS:- Well yeah, unless you can tell me when the reruns of Bullseye are on?
Press conference ends
(Not to be this afternoon)
