Superb Sheath Skittles Glen (well almost..)

Our roving reporter has caught up with the latest FVCC action.

On Saturday 18th July, we made the short 3.2 mile trip down the A6 to Great Glen for another "pre-season/season of friendly.

Winning the toss via a Gentleman's agreement - they wanted to bat, we wanted to bowl, the hosts made a steady start with Mark Harris picking up an LBW and further wickets for Jimmy Loomes and a superb Caught and Bowled for Henry O'Reilly meant that Great Glen went into the drinks break at 94/3.

It was at this point that Jules Rodger made the inspired bowling change and risked bringing on a left arm "spinner" who normally deviates between wides and full tosses whenever tasked with turning his less than impressive arm over.. but these are strange times..

A leg side delivery was effortlessly snaffed by the bucket hands of Jimmy Loomes at leg slip, Mark Harris had his 2nd catch of the day down at cow corner and Sheath managed to beat a batsmen with flight and the timbers were shattered. 8-2-14-3 was some return from someone who normally goes at 8-10 per over..

Glen eventually finished on 137 all out with Micheal Dunkley picking up 2 late wickets alongisde another for Loomes and one for young Ben O'Reilly.

The annoying thing about Great Glen is that they have a more than decent bowling attack who know their line and length and make scoring runs very difficult - FVCC were 21/1 after 12 overs and were always behind the run rate - favourable nods towards Michael Dunkley (28), Arjun Sudra (26) and Henry O'Reilly (13) who helped get the Fleckney boys get close but sadly not close enough.

A loss by 26 runs, but ultimately it was a day in nice weather, playing Cricket against a very good buncha and much banter was exchanged - Cricket was the winner..
