Roth Better With Bat And Ball

The Roving Reporter doesn't usually get out much on Saturdays. Court order, choice or absence of security after a heavy Friday night we are not sure. Whatever the case the Fleckney Chronicalar found their way to Frisby On The Wreake.

What is said in the dressing room behind closed doors should clearly remain private but we are pretty sure that Yak (playing his first game since standing down as skipper) received thanks and applause for his efforts before Fleckney donned bats and pads.

Sadly Fleckney got off to a stodgy start. Arian got an absolute peach on his first ball, Punit chipped one to short extra and Seth misjudged length to be bowled. 21 for 3 had ouch written all over it but sometimes you need the old mountain goats to rescue the situation so Subhash (33) and Yak (19) dropped anchor. Maybe their false teeth too but definitely anchor. Subhash fell the last ball before drinks but 65 for 4 was progress.

Sadly the post drinks period was tough for a young Fleckney side. Wickets fell regularly to leave them 102 all out. This was good learning though for young cricketers with immense promise. We should also congratulate Rothley's Hussian Patel who returned sensational bowling figures of 10 overs 6 maidens 8 runs 2 wickets. Well bowled young man.

Hari Trivedi was the pick of the visiting attack. He took 4 wickets and but for one dropped catch, one over step and a few that dropped short could have done even better.

7 for 2 hinted at mischief but the next wicket didnt fall until 86 by which time the game was all but up.

The stand in skipper had asked for positivity and , by and large received it. Sometimes it comes off, today it didn't. However this youthful side has promise and it really wouldn't take much to see that turned into consistent results.

Now, sadly, it appears the Roving Reporter is being escorted back to HQ where lock and key will be applied for the next two weeks. If you hear rattling of bars though please throw an egg sarnie into the cell.
