Stats A Great Afternoon Out

Andy Standley, much missed former clubmate. Incorrigible, irreverent, never to be forgotten. Gone too soon but remembered every year with a T20 match in his honour served with a side of burger, beer and interclub Tomfoolery. Today was his day and glasses were raised to him. We hope he enjoyed the fare on show from whichever heavenly pavillion bar he had chosen for the occasion.

Hishans Beanie Hat XI lost the toss and were asked to bat by Jennos Giants but who could imagine the carnage of a double wicket maiden sent down by Matt Mustard. Naimesh and Ollie were taking off their pads before Terry even had a chance to call over. Mustard then followed it up with a maiden in his 2nd over too as Hishans team got off to a snail paced start.

As we have grown accustomed to Seth batted beautifully to steady the ship. Tom Seymour Smith also continued his much improved form as the recovery continued. What no-one was accustomed to was Jenno taking the wickets of Yak and Hishan in consecutive balls, if the hattrick had happened I don't think you would have stopped him until he hit Fosse Park.

85 was not a target that should have caused too much concern but at 23 for 5 the call was out for new supplies of toilet paper. Adam complained bitterly he had a mark on his new bat that should have frustrated the LBW appeal, however it was on the wrong edge and thus his concerns had about as much validity as an Astrophysics Degree from Oxford University by the Teletubbies. Mandeep ended a memorable season with a duck as he was caught out by his own son. Did his son care? I think not.

It came down to 5 wanted off the last over bowled by Mark Harris. His first over had been bowled beautifully and for an interclub game it was tense. Not 2019 world cup super over tense but it was a super way to bring the curtain down on the season.

A nick over the slips brought the scores level and a single saw Jennos Giants sneak over the line which, in the early stages of the reply didn't seem very likely.

The winning blow brought season 2026 to a close and it's been a beauty. There is still groundworks, a One Day Final outing next week and all kinds of work ongoing through the Winter but now is a time to raise a glass to Stats and be grateful we had such a fantastic 5 months together.

7 month close season is always a long one but it doesn't last forever. If you are not going to Trent Bridge Winter well. If you are going keep an eye out for a Roving Reporter, rumours are he will be there.
