Braybrooke Beat Fleckney Village by 9 wickets
After last week's heavy defeat at Laughton and Mowsley selection had been really tricky. Was it a one off or time to make a change? Even in Sunday cricket if you keep on doing the same thing every week and expect a different result it's a sign of madness. It was a tough decision but after due consideration the Bombay Mix was retained but told to buck its ideas up.
Fleckney lost a player at the last minute because some things are more important than cricket and the Bombay Mix was drafted into the team. It soon became understood its personal terms were possibly beyond us (it would cost a packet.....sorry about that one) so we held out for a hero and it came in a Yak shape. Fleckney had 11 players and would bat first.
Anyone who has played at Braybrooke will know several things
It's a bugger to find. It's an open field with no signs
The pitch plays fine but the outfield is pretty rugged. It's six or one ...well except for the time The Claw made Frankie run a two but sadly our TV crew missed that one
Putting your foot it in here is more than a metaphor. Ollie found out to his cost that the flies were not simply close up spectators.
Local legend Glynn will happily umpire but wearing a shirt is not compliant with his tanning regime.
Fleckney Sunday debutant Jools lasted just three balls and Mandeep who must have been eyeing the short boundaries with murderous intent got cleaned up before he had found his range. In short Fleckney swiftly found themselves in the sort of stuff Ollie was destined to step in.
Yak and James steadied the ship and the skipper was in the practice net getting his eye in. Unfortunately that expression became literal when a steep unexpected bounce left him a nasty eyelid gash and a return trip to the Corby Urgent Care Centre. No long term harm done but his days work was over.
With the Vice Skipper taking Scooter to get checked out The Claw took the reins as Fleckney finished on 129 all out. Thanks to Braybrooke for finding a way to make the game work with Fleckney down to 9 men.
The chase however was short lived. Braybrooke smashed the total down with many overs to spare. Mitten bashing a quickfire 80 , dropped early on by a sub fielder, but was cleaned up by Dirty Boots Timms who to be fair to him bowled beautifully.
It has to be said that we must now consider the Bombay Mix experiment over. Early promise has faded away and a full time contract will not be offered. However we are hearing good things about Dry Roasted peanuts so Bowden be aware.
Braybrooke thank you for the fun, your kind assistance to get the game on and the laughs in the pub afterwards. Also huge thanks to the NHS staff who will really appreciate on days like today.
