Kibworth Sunday XI V Fleckney Village Sunday XI
This was truly a field day for those who believe in the concept of karma. Scooters Sabbath Collective arrived with kit bags in tow to kick the Winter blues firmly in the googlies. However the hosts were Kibworth who in turn then proceeded to kick us squarely where Richie Benaud wouldn't mention in commentary. The Universe was therefore balanced perfectly.
It was actually a pleasant enough day on Fleckney Road so Uncle Facial Fungus chose to bowl and at 25 for 2 it seemed a smart decision. Not least because he took both victims himself and therefore was approximately 1,988 wickets from his annual target with about 700 games to go. From here however matters dipped.
Zach Whelan moved from an uncertain start and dropped catch to move through the gears to hit an impressive unbeaten century, he also received fine support from Bindi (52*) and Thomason (48) as Kibworth threatened a total more unhealthy than the skippers snack box. Then, like a drunken worm, things took an unexpected turn.
Charlie Bale bowled well but it was debutant Henry Rosier who ran through the tail with figures of 4 for 24 from 4.5 overs. Impressive work certainly but if three catches hadn't also gone down off his bowling it would have been recorded as the greatest introduction since Doctor Who went to his first Police Box roadshow.
Kibworth closed on 257 all out but just imagine how it might have been if 5 catches hadn't hit the turf.
Success was unlikely against a young but highly disciplined attack but the Fleckney batting was solid if unspectacular. Will Bale, like someone afraid of dancing, took 18 balls to get off the mark, he did however break 40 runs. Mike Dunkley got a 50 and Mole got his red inker of the season. 170 for 5 wasn't victory but it was a respectable reintroduction to action against our near neighbours.
That might have been the end of the story but the Roving Reporter tells us he took a player home and the conversation flowed until he found out the players Dad was only a year older than the wordsmith himself. The Reporter was last seen trying to dye his hair and apply knee supports.
Until next week Fleckney fans...
