Proud but Ultimately Defeated

After what has been the strangest league season ever it was all down to this, the Covid Cup final. Fleckney Village 1sts Vs Barkby 3rds/2nds.

After losing the toss stand-in skipper Daz Webber took his troops to the field and were bowling first, and what a start it was for the home side, bowling some great lines and length and tight fielding restricting Barkby to 39/5 at the drinks interval.

After this Barkby started playing with less caution and started throwing the bat at the ball a little more and got upto a respectably 143/9 at the close of innings.

Maybe more than Fleckney were expecting but a score that they were more than confident of reaching. Fleckney then got off to a solid start with new signing Sid and Terry ending from the front but the came the traditional Fleckney collapse losing several quick wickets for not many runs.

While Bobby was still there Fleckney had a chance and a last wicket partnership with Mark Harris almost got us home. But with 12 balls left and 14 runs needed the hope ended there and Fleckney were all out leaving Bobby stranded on 45 Not out.

But overall it was the end of a successful league season for the 1st XI well done to all involved.
