Nothing To See Here

Fleckney XI V Ibstock Sunday XI

Words to describe the Fleckney batting performance are plenty, but not many of them would pass the censor. Therefore please step forward Google Translate.

Spectacle de merde, Scheißshow, espectáculo de mierda or (for our Russian readers) дерьмовое шоу.

Against an Ibstock Development XI who turned out to be more developed that we had hoped the batting fell apart more easily than an Ants G-String being roadtested by Hulk Hogan. A 11 run last wicket partnership took Scooters team to the rather uninspiring heights of 42 all out.

On at a Saturday it would be all done but Ibstock had come a good way for the game and allowed Fleckney to go around again. Presumably chasing the Sunday rare crown of innings victory.

Second time around things went slightly better. Mandeep bashed a breezy 24, Tanzeel hit double figures, all to the saxophone tunes coming from the Fleckney Festival next door. They played the perennial classic “Baker Street” when “Oops I did it again” would have been more apt.

We should pay a small tribute in all of this to Nigel who dropped anchor and refused to give it away. He blocked the straight ones, edged a couple and blocked up one end more effectively than a lack of prune juice. Fleckney closed on 146 for (cough) wickets.

There were now 2 targets for Ibstock, 42 to win the proper game and then 147 to win the extended beer leg. Both they won by 8 wickets. Sam Hill 2-20 was magnificent, both bowled and the second one with the off pole out the ground.

Difficulty was the only thing that left the ground after that was the ball as Ibstock eased their way home with 15 overs to spare

Pick your own words to sum up the afternoon. Without using Google , and not wishing to disrupt family sensibilities , we will settle for Shellacking but an afternoon in good company regardless of result is never wasted. Your averages maybe wasted but the afternoon won't be.

Until next week.
