Picture the scene, In some dark recess of Leicestershire a selection committee meets, they are picking a development team for the trip to Sutton Bonington.
One man stands up, I know an 80 year old that wants a game.
The rest of the group agree. Frank is back.
And what a joyous moment is was to see the legend, on a cricket field, playing for Fleckney.
Now, normally Frank bat's 11, he's earned the right, but today was different, we had 12. So that is where he was placed.
Chris "CT" Turner was chosen to be the glue that the young un's bat around - he would eventually retire on 50 (75 balls, 6 fours) which would have been quicker but for a fantastic ability to find the fielder. Hishan Mansoor got a first Fleckney 50 - this one off 30 balls - 6 fours, 2 sixes - Hishan found gaps.
The innings closed with senior debutant Albert Walsh outscoring his old man by an percentage that cannot be calculated. One of the numbers was 0.
Fleckney posted 175.
Sutton Bonington got off to a ropey start, Adam Houghton showing that bowling the ball straight gets wickets and one of the openers went first ball, the other retired at 50 and it felt that the hosts were running away with it, however captain Brij chopped and changed his bowlers - both Chris and Albert Walsh got overs, Frank rolled back the years too - Sutton clearly decided that development was more important than winning the match and so didn't go after any cheap runs on offer - this particular roving reporter was pleased about this from his own 3 overs - and allowed people to enjoy their efforts rather than chase the win. It cost them the game but I highly doubt they care about that and for this everyone went home happy.
Fleckney finished 10 runs ahead, but it was a day for development and we saw good contributions from the group of youngsters - Henry Rosier, Harry Williams, Adam Houghton, Tom Seymour-Smith, Albert Walsh and Owen Hopkins.
The Future is Bright. The Future is Fleckney.
