Grace gets their Dieu against the Ladies from Old

I'm feeling very proud right now.

Look at how good these Yorkshire's came out... proper rise and fluffy too.

Fabulous.

But I suspect you're not here to hear about my culinary experiences; you're here to talk Cricket.

Probably the right call.

Firstly, we played some Old Ladies... sorry, ladies who were representing the Old.

* It's what they called themselves; this softball scribe is simply quoting.

Fleckney batted first, with strong contributions from Rachel (18), Katharine (10), and Lucy (8) meant we scored 84 runs, BUT the wickets meant that we finished on 249. It felt a little light.

We needed a strong start, and that is exactly what we got. Kinaari panicked them into a run-out, ably finished off by Jodie, and also bowled their opener, and combined with Jo meant that they finished their first pair with the score under 200.

The very next over, Sarah caught a superb catch - one of those that goes up into the air and time stands still, it was hit on a Sunday, and landed in Sarah's hands in the middle of Monday - that's how much hang time there was.

The type of catch that gives you more thinking time than you need. Rachel had her first wicket of the day, and Sarah's league debut meant she had her first catch.

We were in this match.

Rachel, Lucy and Anna shared the middle pairs and bowled tightly, and the final pair came in with the score on 234. Fleckney needed a wicket or two. Sadly, it wasn't to be.

Old finished on 258.

Annoyingl,y we scored more runs than Old, but those pesky wickets were our downfall.

In the 2nd game, we made a couple of changes; Linda and Jan came in for Sarah and Rachel.

We, or more accurately, young Coleman, asked Grace Dieu to bat first, and Jo was able to pick up a couple of wickets, alongside Lucy and a fine run out from Katharine. Dieu ended up on 275 from their 16 overs, thanks to some fine running between the wickets.

In response, the best batting pair was Jodie and Linda, who kept the scoreboard ticking over. As a team, we wear green (it's a fabulous shade on us) and Jodie did look quite green whilst batting, but thankfully was able to continue in her fine way and achieve a career best of 14.

Linda is awesome, and reminds me of the character from Monty Python - you know the one that has their hands chopped off, arms chopped off and by the end of the scene is just a head, and they still are willing to do things for the team. In my head, I can imagine a scene where someone shouts, "Is there a doctor in the house? " and Linda says, "I'm not a doctor, but I'll give it a go", and ends up saving lives. As coaches, you shouldn't have favourites... Linda is my favourite.

Ultimately, in the end, we gave ourselves too much of a mountain to climb and ended up coming short.

This means, as we approach the final weekend of the league campaign we are sitting in 6th position with both Broomleys and Rothley Park to play.

The lowest we can finish is 8th, and we can still finish 3rd if we win both our remaining games.
