Duckhunters v Lichfield Nomads

We call our Sunday team the Duckhunters but on this occasion it was more like some Ducklings and the occasional old Mother Hen types. Three debutants not just to the club but to the game itself was an indication that this team would need to walk tall (even if not tall themselves) and keep the spirit high. To the eternal credit of the boys they didn't let anyone down.

The Nomads batted first and scored 205 for 6. To be fair if that had been offered to stand in skipper Fat Teflon Gloves Sec at the beginning it would have been accepted but the manner of how it was done was notable. Nigel Hallchurch bowled a full 8 over quota ( well earned ) and took two wickets, Nick Daw marked his debut with two victims of his own, Rohan Upple bowled some promising and nerveless spin and then Lachlan Daw bowled some genuine swing from about shin high. It was marvellous to see.

In reply when Bobby Upple and Dom Daw fell early it was apparent that victory was not likely but still heads didn't go down. Nick clobbered some hefty blows on the way to 27. Rohan compiled a patient and classy 17 and then Lachlan showed that batting was just another walk in the park as he scored 5 not out at the end.

Whilst we are dishing out plaudits we wish to reserve the final one to the Nomads themselves who provided the perfect and sporting opposition. They may have won but that was a happy by product of the fantastic way their whole team conducted themselves. Safe journey home fellas, our next meeting cannot come around quickly enough.

This Duckhunters team played with a smile, spirit and a joy that will make this fixture live long in the memory. Well done everyone, it was a privilege.
