Braybrooke Run Fest

Many might mistake the rustic nature of Braybrooke Cricket Club (The Stade d'Cow Poo Poo) with a poor wicket. Sure the outfield is slow but the wicket itself allowed outrageous shot making and nearly 540 runs scored in 77.2 overs with only 6 wickets down. Fleckney must have felt some level of confidence defending 268 for 1 but the home side breezed passed it like it was , well, a Sunday afternoon in the park.

Mandeep scored his first Fleckney century within 21 overs and retired, Mike Dunkley got a ton of his own (albeit more slowly) and the only wickets to fall was Brij Barot who fell to a spectacular grab behind the stumps in the penultimate over. The WhatsApp messages back to the club were more based in incredulity than anything else, seasoned Scooter XI watchers had never seen anything like it.

The Braybrooke reply was more even, no centuries but measured contributions. They were half way at drinks without ever hitting overdrive. That however was about to change.

Asim Shazad came in and chanced his arm , he was dropped 3 times (admittedly no real sitters and judging catches on unequal turf is never easy) but then went simply nuts. He took 32 off one Scooter over. His 4 sixes were enormous, you could have had Giraffes on stilts and still not be close. Braybrooke had incredibly won with 16 balls to spare.

Its difficult to really know what to say. No-one had bowled badly, the batting was clearly very good but it still wasn't enough.

Flipping silly game.....
