1s v Whetstone 2s

After some horrendous weather Whetstones ground played really well and you have to give immense credit to their groundsman.

Big game today it being the return of the YAK to his old stomping ground, and he did not disappoint 😊

Winning the toss I elected to bowl as the pitch looked like it would do all sorts, how wrong I was as it played really well (that’s my excuse for getting smacked around anyhow).

Whetstone came out swinging, both openers looking to launch everything to the leg side boundary, after 3 overs each Mark was 0/9 and I was 0/24! Finally I managed to miss the openers bat and bowl him 4th over, Mark then picked up their number 3 with a catch from the YAK that was sublime. Smashed through gully at a rate of nots Yakesh popped one hand out nonchalantly and took a blinder, cue lots of “you never did that for us” And “what’s he been chewing” from Yaks former team mates.

Me and Mark managed to pick up the other opener and the number 4 and suddenly it was a different game, after 20 overs Whetstone were 93/4 but it quickly became apparent the rest of the batsman were not approaching the game in the same vein. Jimmy bowled his heart out and scared the oppo batsman into running themselves out just to get off strike, he looked so difficult to face and was very unlucky to not get a wicket. Yakesh and then Bobby polished off the rest of the team with 2/16 off 7 for Yaks and 1/12 off 3 for Bobby to leave Whetstone 153 all out.

A bit more than we would have liked no doubt but as the pitch was playing so well entirely gettable. Some great fielding from the team again with catches from Sam, Mark, Jimmy, Yaks and a run out from Sam and a really good performance behind the stumps from CT. Not one dropped catch on the day to make it 3 games in a row with no drops, quality work lads.

At tea CT got a text from the mother in law saying his wife was not well and could he get home as quickly as possible, so in true cricket loving husband style he went up the order to hit out and proceeded to stay in the whole innings!

69 not out and a huge 6 into the road behind the ground to make his average in the league 94, normally this would put you top but Steven red ink Loveridge of Sileby 4’s is on 162!!!

Sam opened with CT and attacked the Whetstone bowling with his normal gusto to finish on 30 off much less deliveries before being caught and Adam got a quickfire 36 to leave the game pretty much done and dusted after 25 overs. Archie came in and got 10 not out to give us a 9 wicket win with 13 overs to spare, really professional chase and another 25 points to stay top – Well done team!

Man of the Match was CT with his 69 not out and cracking keeping, although next time I’m gonna need to see proof of the “text”…
