Another cracking day’s weather for cricket and a BIG derby between the joint 2nd placed teams in the league, if you cant get up for a game against Kibworth then hang your spikes up!
The pitch looked great for batting and the sun was shining so after some conferring with the team I decided to bat if we won the toss, which we did 😊
Great, perfect batting situation ahead, cant wait to see what the lads make of it I thought as I took my place as the square leg umpire. So I was slightly surprised when Adam managed to heave the first delivery (a very friendly leg side full toss) to point of a top edge for a diamond jeffy platinum duck. Not the start we were looking for and I really felt for Adam as he trudged back to the pavilion barely able to comprehend what we had done. Archie had his first bad score for ages too with 8 and after only a few overs we were two down. Bobby and Sam stabilised the ship though scoring 28 and 60 respectively to get us back in the game. 22 from Terry, and a quickfire 5 and 13 from Mike and Samit kept us ticking over but I didn’t think we had nearly enough yet. 20 from jimmy and 6 from D-Lo plus 2 from Mark meant we finished on 176. I thought we were probably 30 short and we will need to bowl and field to our best.
We knew Kibworth had 4/5 good batsmen that we had to get out early to won this game and started really well. I had one opener out caught and bowled for 1 and Mark bowled the number 3 for 1 to put Kibworth 2-6. I bowled their number 4 for 6 and when Sam came on for me and bowled the other opener first ball at him we were well on top. Kibworth still had two serious bats left though in Simon Munden and Steve Matthews and they were looking dangerous after a partnership of 30 odd. We had fielded and bowled brilliantly throughout and the best moment of the match in the field came right when we needed it, Bobby was bowling at the road end and Simon tried to smash him for a straight six, Adam fielding at long off looked no where near it as he came round but made a diving one handed catch right off the sight screen to shock everyone. It really was a fantastic catch and more than made up for his diamond jeffy platinum duck earlier. That left Kibworth with one really strong bat and one less strong so we just set the field accordingly and squeezed the to the end to leave them finishing 128
Man of the match was Sam Payne with his 60, top scorer on both sides by some margin and bowled well, well played Sam
